PSA: Icon Style

The UWS – specifically 70th street juuuuust off Columbus Ave – is not where you would expect to find a supreme vintage shop. This is right next to places like Gorjana, which is all about making brand new, semi-fine jewelry accessible. Icon Style, on the other hand, is all about stories (read: old) items where uniqueness is more important than accessibility.

There are so many amazing pieces in here. Jewelry is the headliner here, and it’s grouped by metal, type, and fine vs. costume. There’s also a curated selection of clothing, thoughtfully labeled to detail the decade.

I got a lavender babydoll style nightie that feels very Austin Powers fembot. I later ordered a lavender lace bra (under $20 from Target) to peekaboo underneath, and I plan to wear it as a top with hot pants or cropped flares for a night on the town to be determined. I also got a pair of earrings that I need to convert to posts from clip-ons. I had been examining a Whiting & Davis bag and explained to the sales associate that I was going to pass but that I collect them. She asked if I knew they used to make jewelry and I said excuse me ma’am?! Those earrings came home with me without a second thought.

This was an unexpected gem and I’m so glad I discovered a place for vintage finds and storied pieces uptown. It’s not always a downtown person’s game.
